I was gifted mine 1 year ago and still keep it in my bag. It's also good at holding a line. Marko Marko (Reviewer Class 5, Advanced) Jan 2 2023 7:10AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Very Beginner Friendly I started bagging this disc this past summer. Needed something straight to compliment my other midranges. I have a 175g star and a 175g champion. The one thing I can say is why didn't I bag this disc sooner. It is super straight and holds it's line like a laser beam. I get very slight fade out of the champion. The star has no fade and I can also work a nice little anhyzer if I need to. I think the flight numbers are pretty spot on. The rim is very comfortable in the hand. A perfect beginners to advanced disc. jserepair jserepair (Review Participant, L2, Beginner) Nov 29 2022 7:31AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Very Beginner Friendly Love this as a mid-range disc, easy to put where you want it, but yet will hold and carry the power you give it too. This disc should be in every beginners bag. I like to use it as a wind resistant putter too. tree.slayer tree.slayer (Review Participant, L2, Intermediate) Nov 14 2022 1:07PM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/1Very Beginner Friendly Such a great disc to learn with! I feel like with 60-70% and pretty flat will go nearly dead straight with a little fade left for me. I learned how to hyper flip it will more power, get a nice anhyzer flight... it can do it all while giving you instant feedback on your technique. B.Thiel B.Thiel (Review Participant, L2, Beginner) Nov 13 2022 6:18PM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0.5Somewhat Beginner Friendly This disc is helping with my form big time. I had been playing an almost entirely stable bag so I didn't realize how often I was releasing on slight anhyzer until bagging the mako3. Pointed that flaw out immediately and never hides it to this day. Now I've got my focus put into a flatter release and its helping the rest of my game. This has been a great compliment to my stable/overstable lucid Emac Truth, and I just got my first ace with this Mako3 Jonathan Bernier Jonathan Bernier (Review Participant, L2, Beginner) Nov 1 2022 6:05AM My Flight Ratings 5/5/0/0Very Beginner Friendly The Innova Mako3 is my favorite of the midrange discs. The true neutral turn & fade allows me to throw at any angle I want and it will always hold the line. I've use it to drive the basket on approach, to get out of scrambles, and heck, I've even used it as a substitute putter. A great starter disc, recommended by a beginner. Koore9 Koore9 (Review Participant, L2, Intermediate) Oct 25 2022 1:34PM My Flight Ratings 5/5/0/0Very Beginner Friendly If you come from ultimate frisbee, get a mako3. The most true neutral disc of all time, the definition of 0 turn 0 fade. The rounded edge gives me a better feel than the buzzz style midranges, but that's personal preference. Backhand point and shoot up to 280ft, or hyzerflip touch forehands. Very glidy and very honest, it will show you exactly what angle you put it on and it won't move at all. Really ripping on the disc will flip it though, and once it starts turning over it usually doesn't stop, so not great for max distance shots. Tibblion Tibblion (Review Nut, L7, Intermediate) Sep 18 2022 11:17AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Very Beginner Friendly 180g Champion Innova Mako3 I have this mid range beast in a 180, which makes it a bit of a bulky throw requiring some effort. That being said it flies completey straight and is the most wind resistant disc I own, Not a disc for trick shots, but if you need a line-drive, it is one of the best you could hope for. mattschoch777 mattschoch777 (Reader, Intermediate) Sep 15 2022 7:29AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Very Beginner Friendly I've played disc golf for about two years now, and my appreciation for this disc has remained the same. The Mako3 is the perfect disc for beginners to take that next step to intermediate. The flight numbers are true, as this disc is the straightest flyer in my bag, even with minimal effort. I can change my arm angle to make this disc shape any shot, and it gently drops to the ground, regardless of how much height I give my throw. If you are looking to improve your game, I highly recommend grabbing a Mako3, and consider playing a round exclusively with this disc. It will help correct your form and you will learn release points and angles over time. As for the flight, this disc is surprisingly torque-resistant on backhands. On a full-power shot, the disc doesn't immediately turn over, and the reliable fade gives the player predictability. I found my second ace with a Mako3 on a slight hyzer flip, 270-foot hole. Please bag this disc, in any plastic. You'll be doing your game a favor. Rhyzopus Rhyzopus (Review Supporter, L3, Intermediate) Aug 31 2022 9:21AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/-0.5/0.5Very Beginner Friendly So I really don't care too much for this disc. The 0 turn and 0 fade is deceptive to me. This doesn't fly like that for my shots. I get less turn and fade out of my cryztal buzzz's than these. Also, the rim feels odd to me and I have a hard time actually gripping the disc well. I have thrown a friends disc in star plastic and flies the same to me. Its not as point and shoot as some might suggest, but it for sure is no more than a -1, 1 disc. Not giving it worse reviews since my friends have success with throwing it at lower speeds, but theirs still has a small S curve in their throw unlike something like a polecat where it doesn't turn unless its thrown too hard. Frank Frank (Review Nut, L7, Professional) Aug 23 2022 8:46PM My Flight Ratings 5/5/0/0Very Beginner Friendly Straight Control n Long Glide - best disc for all around and beginner. 170g RHBH Champion Glo Tour Plastic - ( + 1 fade ) dang strait. but can finesse anhyzer and hyzer lines if not thrown too hard. Easy to throw and keeps going, so power should be moderated. ( i did get a stack ) 165 Star plastic RHBH flat low ceiling lines and- nice turnovers, but not too flippy. great grip, and can putt well too. 175g Champion RHBH, long flat flights. quite long foe the effort. beginners can learn to throw flat with this. if thrown BH, should be flat and fast. if it turns over too much, its because it was thrown like a driver or into a strong wind. some molds more like +1 to +2 fade. Logan Heger Logan Heger (Reviewer Class 5, Intermediate) Jul 3 2022 9:29AM My Flight Ratings 5/5/0/0Very Beginner Friendly The most beginner friendly disc I have ever seen If you are a beginner in the game I think the Mako3 is the very first disc you should start with. It is the straightest flying disc I have ever thrown and will show every mistake you make. Whatever line you put the Mako3 on is the line it will fly the entire flight. This is super useful for those who are looking to fix their throwing angle or anyone who just needs a super straight midrange with no fade. If you need to hit any kind of tunnel shot this is the perfect disc to hold a straight line the entire time. I think this disc has a spot in everybody's bag at any skill level. I would suggest a premium plastic just to make sure it stays straight I personally throw champion and its flight has not changed after many trees hit. Brandon Lindley Brandon Lindley (Review Enthusiast, L4, Advanced) Jun 25 2022 9:19PM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Very Beginner Friendly The Mako3 is a very neutral flying mid range disc. If you are familiar with mid ranges especially the classic roc and you are looking for a more straight flyer with something that doesn't finish left or too far right then this is the next disc you need to get. Some people will say the Wombat3 is similar to a putter but with more glide and of course a midrange distance which is spot on. If you put it on a slight hisser it will flip up slowly to insure that it'll get far down the fairway enough before it stands up and finishes straight or ever so slightly to the right throwing RHBH. I would say this is definitely a must in every Innova fans' bag. It is the bread and butter right along with the roc3 as far as mid range discs go. Oh and it is very true to its flight characteristics so expect a consistent flight every single time. KawaiiSake KawaiiSake (Review Supporter, L3, Beginner) Jun 14 2022 7:34PM My Flight Ratings 5/4/-1/0Very Beginner Friendly Great straight beginner disc or advanced turnover disc, DO NOT get it in max weight, way too inconsistent. 165-170 seems to be the sweet spot. As a beginner with a slow arm it will be a laser beam straight thrower. After you develop speed and control it will be an incredibly consistent turnover disc. Throw it flat and it will reliably and predictably turn for you. Every mako I've thrown has had a beat-in period, but it doesn't seem to be getting any less stable after. My star mako3 has remained in my bag since the day I got it and gets thrown every single round I play. The only problem this disc has is, during that in-between phase where you are starting to throw faster and harder, it will sometimes behave erratically. It has a weird teenage phase where you will want to toss it out of your bag. Honestly, probably toss it and pick it up again later as a turnover thrower. You won't regret it. I would say in general mako3's have a -1 to -1.5 turn. Max weight ones will fly very inconsistently. Sometimes drifting left sometimes drifting right, never quite where you want it to go. Sean Maxwell Sean Maxwell (Review Fanatic, L6, Beginner) Jun 7 2022 11:39AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Very Beginner Friendly The Mako3 is an amazing disc that has a place in all bags. The relatively high glide without much power lets you make lots of mid/approach shots as you are learning the sport. It is super stable and flies really straight even without a lot of power. I got the Champion plastic to survived the tree tunnel shots that inevitability go straight into the trunks (its my fault, not the discs). It flies a lot like the Infinite Discs Anubis but is way more comfortable and has a spot as my stable mid-range in my bag. Adam Adam (Review Participant, L2, Intermediate) May 27 2022 8:16AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Very Beginner Friendly Wow this disc goes straight. I have been predominately a forehand player and picked up this disc to help my backhand throws. I don't think I will ever go without a Mako3. The disc feels good, flies straight as an arrow and is all around a perfect midrange approach disc. The Halo Star plastic is so beautiful and the stamp is all time. I would definitely recommend this disc to anyone who is starting out as it will make the game a lot less frustrating, or anyone who is in need of a reliable midrange. Nathan Howell Nathan Howell (Review Fanatic, L6, Intermediate) May 12 2022 6:15AM My Flight Ratings 5/4/0/0Somewhat Beginner Friendly Disc: Innova Champion Mako3, 175g Feel: This disc is very flat. It feels just a tad bit strange in the hand at first, honestly. I always like to point out in my reviews of Champion discs that I’m not the biggest fan of Champion plastic. It just feels ever so slightly off for me. That being said, I still bag 8 discs in Champion. For me to bag a disc that is Champion plastic, it has to feel absolutely perfect in my hand. The Mako3 is in my bag. It feels pretty good backhand. But it feels absolutely wonderful forehand. If I close my eyes and hold a Mako3 forehand, I feel as though I am holding a Roc3. (Which is the 2nd highest compliment I can ever pay to a disc, the only higher being that a disc felt like a Destroyer.) Flight: This disc is actually kinda tough to throw. I have friends who bought it for their siblings who were just getting in to disc golf, as they thought it would be an easy beginner midrange. But it really isn’t that easy to throw. You have to have good angle control, this disc isn’t very forgiving. I have also found that you really can’t power up on this disc like most other midranges. When thrown flat with a fair bit of power, this disc flies like a laser beam. It flies dead straight. No turn. No fade. It slides straight, it skips straight, and it rolls straight. It’s also pretty good at holding anhyzer lines, and hyzer lines as well. But I think there are better discs out there for holding hyzer/anhyzer lines. Overall: This disc is great! I find myself reaching for this very regularly when I’m playing wooded courses with tight fairways. I’ve never really believed that a disc could fly perfectly straight, the other midranges and putters I’ve tried that boast of a perfectly straight flight have fallen short. I loved throwing this through super tight gaps and watching my friends’ facial expressions when it did not move to the left or right in the slightest. Three of my disc golf buddies picked up Mako3’s after watching me keep going to it during a weekend round at a wooded course. Not my favorite disc for beginners, but it’s not the worst either. Love this disc, and I highly recommend it! tbunch8 tbunch8 (Reader, Beginner) May 10 2022 11:28AM My Flight Ratings 5/5/-1/0Very Beginner Friendly Flies dead straight when brand new. Beats into an excellent hyzer flip or turnover disc. Love throwing it in the woods. JoeyC13 JoeyC13 (Review Guru, L12, Advanced) May 9 2022 3:30PM My Flight Ratings 5/4/-1/0Somewhat Beginner Friendly These flight extremely straight and took me a while to figure out the release angle, but once I did, this became my go to disc for tight wooded shots over 250'. This disc will fly on whatever angle you release it on and then add a slight turn, and will NOT fight back. I would give this a -1 Turn rating as it always tries to flip to flat or turn on me, but with enough hyzer angle on release it just goes and goes. The rim and edge are forgiving and easy to hold and the soft star plastic gives you the extra grip.
