Description: This print is from a rare portfolio of high quality photogravure (collotype) prints of Savannah Georgia dating from the first years of the 1900s. I don't have an exact date, but it is approximately 1906, based on the monuments. This image depicts The Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences. It was created when Mary Telfair bequeathed the Telfair Family Mansion to the Georgia Historical Society in 1875. It is located at 121 Barnard St. Jay's classical Regency design for the exterior is punctuated by a rectangular porch surmounted by a semicircular window. The four Corinthian columns have unusual coadestone capitals. The interior spaces are highlighted by the Octagon and Dining Room, representing period rooms of the early 19th century. These period rooms provide a splendid setting for the Museum's decorative arts collection, including American European objects from 1790-1840. The core of this collection is the Telfair family legacy, including a rare Philadelphia suite of maple furniture and an unusual dining table with two sets of semi-circular leaves commissioned by Thomas Cook of Philadelphia. Tons of detail in this print, and beautiful tones. This would look wonderful framed. This incredibly beautiful photogravure is single-sided and on thick paper with a cream tone from age.
