Description: Carb Reed Valve Block Assembly High quality OEM replacement reed valve assembly fitted with fibre glass reed petals, suitable for Minarelli AM6 and Derbi Senda engines. Reed valves are designed to operate as a one way valve, the air/fuel mixture enters the crankcases and is forced up the transfer ports into the combustion chamber. Crankcase pressure is much higher than most people think, if you have low pressure your engine will perform poorly and will eventually fail to start altogether, you can lose pressure from worn oil seals, leaky gaskets and damaged reed valves. Reed petals most commonly fail because they chip and break off, allowing the pressure from the crankcase to force the fuel back through the carb and not up the transfer ports. The petals can also warp causing a gap the in the reed block again allowing the fuel mixture out of the engine. Reed petals are nowadays made from fibre glass or carbon fibre because although they wear out faster than metals petals they do not tend to damage the engine once they break off and get sucked around the engine. If you are having starting issues or poor throttle response it is worth checking your reed valve, it is very easy to check simply remove it from the bike and inspect the petals for any chips. To check for warped petals hold your reed block upto a light, if you can see any light appearing between the petals and the block then it will need to be replaced.
