The long, lance-shaped leaves are bright green, creating a beautiful contrast against the dark culms. Size: It can grow up to 30 feet tall, with each culm reaching up to 2 inches thick. Hardiness: Black bamboo is hardier than most other bamboo species and can thrive in colder climates down to 5 degrees (zones 7 to 10). Fast growing: This variety quickly reaches impressive heights, forming dense foliage within a short time. The photo that shows a section of green foliage is growth after just two and a half years. Planting Tips: Location and Sun: It will do well if planted in a sunny spot outdoors, partial shade is good as well, however, it may grow faster in full sun.
