Description: Description:Please find for offer a wonderful French carved wood, polychrome & gilded statue of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, dating to the late 18th century. This fine carving is an excellent subject depicting Christ amongst clouds, rising into Heaven following the Resurrection. The piece has original gilding on the body and clouds, with excellent polychrome to Christ's head and hands. This is a wonderful quality carved statue that is also very decorative and looks great when displayed. There is a modern hanging loop to the reverse for wall display, as well as recent metal fixture where presumably it was attached to a stand. Dimensions:Height: 69.2cm. Width: 38.5cm at widest point. Depth: Approx 6.5cm Condition:Both sides of the clouds appear to have been reattached – but this could be original joinery to extend the size of timber. Minimal trace of glue around both wrists. Little finger of right hand glued. Minimal old worm holes (treated). Some wear to the gilding. Age related wear as expected but overall in good condition. Please examine photos carefully.
