Amiga 2000 less-populated ram expander. Untested. Possibly refurbished. Rare.

Description: We received quite a few of these about 18 or 20 years ago from a major corporation which used to refurbish Commodore and Amiga computers for Commodore. We are not sure if these provide the 1mb of expansion without having chips installed on the top row or not OR if the top row of empty sockets provides for additional expansion beyond 1mb. Who knows! We have sold quite a few of these without any complaints that I can recall. We no longer have an Amiga 2000 computer here to test these with so we recommend these primarily for those with troubleshooting and repairing skills if needed OR to those who just want one for parts or nostalgia. However, there is a reasonable possibility that this expander may work ok. Who knows! In any case the top row of sockets do not have any 41256-15 memory chips (which are likely the chips which are required) installed. Slight bit of unknown residue on front right edge and front left edge. Also slight unknown residue on rear left and right edges near bottom. Residue does not appear to be in any critical areas. See photos. There are some very thin little jumper wires on the back of many (if not most or all) of these ram expanders (see photos). These jumper wires appear to be in the same location on all of these boards which we have looked at so we think that this may be normal. Who knows!Note: This ram expander may only work on the earliest Amiga 2000 boards. If any potential user or buyer has more information about these you may want to let us know so that we can possibly provide more information for potential buyers of these. Note: In early 2023 we listed two Amiga 2000 expander boards. One of the boards was more fully populated than the board shown here but otherwise seemed to be very similar or identical to this board listed here. Shortly after listing these boards an Amiga enthusiast purchased the more populated of the two boards. After receiving the more fully populated board the purchaser provided the following information to us which may (or may not) also apply to this board shown here. We have received permission from this buyer to reproduce some of what he told us about these type of expander boards. We haven't been able to confirm the information he has provided but this buyer seems to be very well informed about these expander boards. Here is what he said: Just wanted to pass back some detail on these boards. the BigBookOfAmigaHardware site has the C= 1MB RAM board in it's list, which I have updated to match this board's behavior (that which I am able to test). It places 512K or 1MB of FastRAM at address C00000-C7FFFF or C00000-CFFFFF respectively when set to the FastRAM. Compatible modes on the West Chester (common) B2000 4.x/6.x. Memory is OS detected by default (a.k.a. Ranger memory). This next part is a guess. Presumably then it will map one of the 512K banks into $F80000 for one of the Kickstart loading modes - presumably for when the German A2000 was like the A1000, and would likely have had a Kickstart boot ROM set, and soft loading a Kickstart image. I have no way to test it on my B2000 systems at present. FWIW (for what it is worth)- I've ordered some 256x1 DIP chips of 100ns to replace what was on the upper bank. The current 150ns parts is very close to the line, and one chip was always failing memory tests from the DiagROM tool. I suspect the extra trace distance was giving me some more errors when tested with the AmigaTestKit tool kit (OS ROM boot). Otherwise, all as expected. Thanks for the rare board. This same buyer later added this additional comment: The board is a piece of history in a way. We are providing this information in the hopes that it might help potential buyers to know more about the item listed here. This buyer seems very credible but we have not independently verified the information he has provided. Note: A recent buyer of one of these sent us a link where more information about these Amiga 2000 1 mb expanders apparently can be found. We haven't had the time to verify this link and we don't normally like to have outgoing links in our Ebay listings. However, if you want me to send an Ebay message with the link this previous buyer sent us I will try to locate it and send it to you if you are serious about buying this item.
