These are constructed out of solid aerospace Grade 5 Titanium 6AL4V (6% Aluminum 4% Vanadium). These rings have a unique dual radius design with a larger radius on the inner diameter for less friction when used in a pulley configuration. But the outer diameter has a smaller radius for better friction control when rope is wrapped through for various belaying knots such as the Munter hitch. Under load most tension is absorbed by the inner diameter radius, and testing has verified the outer sharper radius has little effect on breaking strength. Yes, unlike the aluminum rap rings I would trust these for belaying. While researching Rappel Rings I finally did find a similar ring designed by Bill "The Dolt" Feuerer called the RingDolt, but I suspect they were smaller as they weighed 21 grams in aluminum. These rings are about 2.25 outer diameter x 1.75 inner diameter x .5 inches wide. Rings weigh about 55 grams each. These rings have an approximate breaking strength of 6,850 pounds (more than 30kN) in the test configuration shown in the photos. The Titanium construction of these rings makes them completely immune to corrosion in any water or marine environment. Being much harder than aluminum, these rings will wear much less than the aluminum rap rings on the market. They will not ding up and burr like aluminum rings and damage your valuable rope or slings. Your carabiners will not dent them. These rings should last for a lifetime of climbing (at least). There are unlimited uses for a versatile ring such as these. These rings are very useful when using fixed points- hang them off of your carabiner/rapid links to keep your rings perpendicular to and rope off of the rock (see Photo). This will minimize twist in your rope. The flat on the outer diameter helps to keep your ring perpendicular to the rock under load. Photo shows use as a slackline line locker configuration for 1.75 inch webbing, they also work well for 1 inch tubular webbing. Photo shows a ring after a destructive load test, considering the ring broke at 6,855 pounds you can see there is minimal load distortion to these rings, yet they do retain some ductility. Last picture shows failure specimen on top of an unbroken ring. Note this listing is only for the titanium rappel ring, no other items included.
