Description: I recently came into possession of parts in a big box that I got from a friend whom I had a guitar repair business together. I am slowly selling off the last of the parts that we bought or took off guitars over the last thirty years. This is the last of the Gibson humbucking pickups that we had in our stash. I originally bought this in 1991 or 1992 or sometime thereabout. I bought this from a local guitar dealer who had removed these as part of a set from a brand new Les Paul. Ironically neither of them worked. I only bought the bridge pickup for a project. I bought this non working. The PC board on this has seen better days as I tried in vain to repair this without opening it but to no avail. Nothing the dealer did to it worked and nothing that I did to it worked either. I desoldered the cover and rewired this with the red and green wires directly to the coil wires inside. Meaning that there are pins inside for the non adjustable bobbin but the green is mounted directly to the inner coil wire itself. There are no inner wires from the coil to the leads which makes it easier for them to break. So I wrapped the coils with paper tape as per Gibson humbuckers. I also super glued the lead wires to the PC board to keep them from breaking off while being handled or in transit. It is wasn't even wax potted from the factory. This might squeal a little bit at high volume or close to an amp. This is the original cover for this pickup as evidenced by its cut outs for the mounting tabs. I used this pickup for experiments and it has been installed in several guitars. I rewound the non adjustable bobbin as it didn't work for some reason. I don't remember now since it's been over thirty years ago when I did this. I rewound this by hand. Both coils together read 6.9 kilohms on my volt/ohm meter which is what it's supposed to read in this range. I sold this to my friend and he had this pickup from 1995 until earlier this year when I recieved this again with about $400.00 in guitar parts and accessories. There is an inner copper coated PC board between the bobbins and the outer PC board on the bottom of the pickup. This is visible in the pictures. You can super glue new mounting nuts inside the holes. Or you can use epoxy for this. I am including another nickel silver base plate should you want to use it. Bend the side tabs down or cut them off so that you can mount this to the bottom of the PC board and use the mounting legs from it instead. Either way this works even though it's ugly. Unless you are very adept with guitar pickups and have a lot of experience and the necessary tools it is highly ill advised to alter this internally or remove the bobbins from this PC board to simply mount it to another base plate as the results could be disastrous! The adjustable bobbin wires are still soldered to the original pins that were used from the factory. I only soldered the wires to them. But these are still very delicate. With all that said this will need some attention to make it usable in a guitar. I have no inclination to do anything else to it at this time. It works as is and can be easily fixed to another base plate bolted to the PC board if you know what you're doing. I am selling as is with no warranty or guarantee other than this is an actual Gibson pickup and that it does indeed work. Although it may look like the same pictures (with the cover on) they're not. Each one is from a different side - not angle so that you can see it in its entirety. This way you know what you're getting and there will be no surprises. Shipping is $10.80 to the East coast and to the southern border. Shipping will be more for the west coast at $14.50 No reserve. Buy it now with no strings attached and no having to haggle or crawl over other buyers. Shipped through USPS or UPS. Ask all questions before buying. Thank you for looking.
