SPX is sportiest, most luxurious of the 1987 4-wheel-drive trucks from Mitsubishi Motors. Available only in the sporty short-bed version, the SPX powertrain includes the powerful, 109-horsepower, 2.6-liter engine, 5-Speed manual overdrive transmission, 2-speed transfer case and automatic free-wheeling front hubs. On the inside, SPX has high-back reclining bucket seats, cut-pile carpeting, additional instrumentation, day-night rear view mirror, door pockets, storage console, full trim and a variety of upscale options that include cruise control, sliding rear window, two-tone paint, chrome wheels, chrome rear bumper and high-tech audio. Mitsubishi Montero (left) and Montero Sport for 1987 are refined for enhanced performance and greater owner satisfaction. There is now an optional 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission (in place of the 3-speed) and this is available for the base version as well as the Montero Sport.
