Offered is an original unused printer's sheet for the 1978 Tom of Finland Calendar published by Eons Art Gallery in Los Angeles, California, where in that year they hosted a showing of Tom of Finland's male artwork, following his Stompers Gallery NY introduction. Please note that the year 1978 and name of publisher do not appear on the sheet (the provenance is accurate, and the numerical date and day of the week match for the year 1978). The sheet measures 35" by 23" and contains three art pieces by Tom of Finland with the calendar month, days of the week, and date numbers appearing below the artwork. If the sheet had been processed, each month would have been cut to the size of the actual calendar, which was 11" by 19-1/4". Painstaking craftsmanship. Through his iconic images, he almost singlehandedly changed the way gay men were perceived by society, and, more importantly, how gay men perceived themselves. The massive oeuvre that he produced over the course of a career spanning nearly six decades is devoted almost entirely to this one topic: men, their bodies and their eroticism. This extraordinary consistency in subject matter was matched by a lifelong passion for the discipline of drawing. And Tom most likely drew every day of his life. Tom’s world was populated by lumberjacks, navy seamen, leather men, cowboys, mechanics, cops, punks and thugs―all indulging their desires with great camaraderie and without guilt or prejudice - a cross section of these characters as devised by the artist in rough sketches or more carefully executed studies.
