Golden Treasury Series. Title Page engraved with full-length engraved portrait of Bacon. Reprinted in 1863, with many alterations in 1865 and with slight corrections in the years up to 1920. An unusual and possibly unique binding given the nature of the binder’s work. xxiii, 388pp including the glossary. Approximately 6 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine – good condition – gilt titles, single raised band, incised decoration of a sword. Some marks and darkening.Joints – good condition – rubbed, chipped and worn.Corners – good condition – gently bumped and worn.Boards – good condition – full calf with tinted front board with an incised image of an oil lamp on a book, titles in red to the top, the rear cover with an incised image of a red rose, marked and worn with minor loss to the board edges.Page edges – good condition – all gilt.See above and photos.
