Description: ANOTHER SUPERB WW1 WATCH FIND FROM TIMEISPRECIOUS!!. I AM A 100% POSITIVE EBAY SELLER-BID WITH CONFIDENCE!! OFFERED TODAY IS THIS VERY RARE BEAUTIFUL SWISS MADE ENGLISH WHITE METAL WW1 CIRCA 1916-18 GENUINE MILITARY ISSUED TRENCH WRISTWATCH. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH A MINTY DIAL!! THIS IS NOT A CONVERTED POCKET WATCH. CASE: This is a beautiful genuine white metal (standard non-rusting military spec) WW1 trench watch. This is a very rare watch as it is an M.O.D war issued watch. Most trench watches were privately bought by officers but some watches were issued to signalling forces personnel in the front trenches that needed a timing device in WW1. They were larger than non-issued trench watches and this one is no exception measuring 3.7cms (37mm) in diameter excluding the crown. It has white metal wire extended lugs. The inside of the case back is numbered. The case has a good quality hinged case back. The snap on bezel is lovely and is in great condition. There are some light normal marks to the case which look like a brushed finish are expected from a watch of this age. The case back shows wear from a one piece strap. The case back is numbered 96366 M. The ‘M’ designation indicates a ‘jointed case back' (hinged). These watches were used for a while in WW1 but deemed not as good as screw down bezels and backs in stopping the elements getting into the movement so they were rejected by the MoD and scrapped. This one has survived and is amazingly RARE. There are NO dings on the case back which is in excellent condition. This is a beautiful original WW1 case. DIAL: This superb wristwatch has a fantastic original BLACK unsigned dial which is in MINTY condition. The dial has beautiful LUMED Arabic numerals. The dial also has a gorgeous silvered 'railway' track running all around it. The numerals and track are crisp and sharp showing no wear whatsoever. The Lume is orange in color and is near perfect so it might have had an old re-lume at some point but I am not sure, The crystal is made from GLASS and is in good condition showing light marks here and there. The blued steel ‘Cathedral style’ wire hands are in excellent order. To find a dial such as this is very rare on a circa 107 year old timepiece!! MOVEMENT: The movement on this stunning piece is gilded and is in lovely condition and of very good quality. It seems to be a Fontainmelon calibre. It is in working condition. The watch has just been oiled and timed by my watchmaker. The watch winds very smoothly and is crown set, which works as it should. As usual a full service is recommended for optimum running performance and timekeeping. The excellent condition crown is white metal in color and looks to be original. The movement is keeping good time to about /- 4 mins min per day, which is absolutely acceptable for a circa 97 year old military used watch. BAND: I have fitted a new brown genuine leather 12mm open ended extra long watch band. It is in good condition with slight wear to one side at the back near the lugs. with a gold tone buckle.
