Important early portrait of the "Nine Days Queen" ordered to be executed at the age of 17 for high treason. After initially being pardoned by Queen Mary for wrongfully assuming the crown Lady Jane Grey and her husband Lord Guildford Dudley aged 18, after being held in the Tower of London, were beheaded on February 12th 1554. This early portrait of the young Duchess dated 1553 possibly commissioned by her father, Henry Grey Duke of Suffolk" with the portrait signifying the sitter as "Daughter To Suffolk". Presented in an antique oak frame. The work remains in good early condition. The surface stable, minor bowing to the panel. Would be further enhanced with a light professional clean.
